By Juliet

Hello everyone!! I hope you all are having a great summer! This email contains a lot of important information, so please take the time to read it carefully, and please ask if you have any questions.

** Divers, you will hear about practice from Greg. Ani, the diving captain, will help you with anything else:).

PRACTICES

The first day of practice is August 14th from 3:45-6:00 pm at the Mayo High School pool. The weekly schedule is as follows:

  • Monday-Thursday 3:45-6:00 * not all swimmers stay until 6. They’ll know the first week how long they will tay every day

  • Friday - everyone swims from 3:45-5:15 pm

  • Saturday - yoga 8:45-9:45 am, swim from 10-12

Please make sure you are on time, ready to get in the water at 3:45 on the dot. I take punctuality very seriously. Have goggles; I will provide you with a Mayo cap.

All practices are mandatory. If you cannot be at practice, or will be late, I need to know as soon as possible. If a swimmer misses too many practices, I will pull them from a meet.

INJURIES

Injures will happen when you train as we do. Please make sure you are taking care of yourself. Ice when our muscles are sore, stretch before practice and let us know when you are hurting for more than a day or two. I take injuries very seriously and will insist that you take good care of yourself.

That said, I would like to assume that each swimmer will take care of themselves when they are injured. I will also assume that we do not mistake being tired for being injured. If a swimmer is tired, that is not the same as being injured. Tired is something you overcome with practice, proper sleep and nutrition. I will help your swimmer learn the difference.

MEETS

Every swimmer will swim in every meet unless I have pulled them or they are injured. I will post the line up at least a day before the meet when I can. Often there are changes on the day of the meet that I cannot always foresee. If you know you will not be at a meet, please let me know ASAP; it is hard to make relays and then make changes at the last minute.

Meets will start at 6:30 pm. We will take a bus to away meets. I will send information about the schedule of each meet closer to that date.

Our home meets will be at Century High School pool. There is lots of space, but it is hot. The best news is that we will be able to watch the divers at every meet!!

INVITES/CHAMPIONSHIP MEETS

Not all swimmers will go to the Invites and Championship meets. I will have more information on that later in a different email.

APPAREL/SUITS

We are ordering the suits and team apparel through Elsmore. I will send out the online store link as soon as possible.

  • Every swimmer and diver must order a suit and a t-shirt, at the least. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me.

  • There are 2 deadlines for the online store. The first one is the first day of practice  - August 14. The second will be August 31. If you wait until the second deadline, you may not get your suit and apparel until mid-September. That second deadline is for those that join the team after the first day of practice.

  • Swimmers are expected to wear Mayo caps ( which I will provide) , Mayo suits and Mayo apparel to every meet. For new swimmers, their sister swimmer will make sure they have something until their things arrive.

CAPTAINS PRACTICE

Captains practices will be August 7-10 from 10:00-11:00 am.  Meet at Door 6 at Mayo High School. That is the door where the large/student parking lot is. They are optional but I highly encourage you to go, especially if you are new.

These practices are fun, team building sessions. Each day will be run by a different captain. Just show up in comfortable clothes and plan to be outside the whole time.

On Friday, the team will be going tubing. PLEASE WEAR SUNSCREEN. More details about that will come from the captains.
