2022 Information Meeting

On Friday, May 13, 2022, Mayo Boys Soccer will host an online information meeting for our Fall 2022 season.  All incoming Mayo 8-12th graders and their families are welcome to attend.  There will be 2 sessions for this meeting.  While the sessions will have the same content, their target audiences are different.

The first meeting, from 6-6:45 PM, is meant for people who are already familiar with the program and don't have a lot of questions.  We will discuss optional summer activities, requirements for the fall, and important dates.  The link to this meeting is:

The second meeting, from 7-8 PM, is meant for people who are newer to the program.  We will cover the same items as in the first meeting, but we will also discuss expectations, explain how high school soccer operates, and answer questions.  The link to this meeting is:

While anyone can join these meetings, it will be easier to sign in if you are logged in with your ISD 535 account.  Attendance is somewhat limited, so if you are able to join as a family on a single device, please do so.  If you cannot attend either meeting, the presentation and a recording of the meeting will be available later.

Tryout dates and Captains practice

The 2022 tryouts are tentatively scheduled to begin on Monday, August 15.  Similar to last year, we expect to have 3 sessions each day:  2 for Varsity/JV and 1 for B-/C-Squad.  Specific times and locations have not yet been decided.

For reference, here are the details from the 2021 season.

The 2021 tryouts will begin on Monday, August 16, and run through Wednesday, August 18.  Times and locations are as follows:

  • Varsity/JV Morning Session - 9:30 - 11 AM @ Mayo HS - tennis court fields
  • B-/C-Squad Evening Session - 5:30 - 7 PM @ Mayo HS - tennis court fields
  • Varsity/JV Evening Session - 7 - 8:30 PM @ Mayo HS - stadium turf

The Varsity/JV sessions should be attended by:

  • Everyone who played Varsity or JV in 2020
  • All upperclassmen, regardless of what level they played at last season
  • Any other player invited by the coaches.

The B-/C-Squad session should be attended by all players in grades 8-10, unless they have been invited to attend the Varsity/JV session.

Players are expected to attend all of their appropriate sessions on each of the 3 days.

Please bring both a white shirt and a dark shirt to the tryout sessions.

To be added to the mailing list, please email tijennings@isd535.org.

For information on Captain's practice you can email Tim Persons (player) at tcpsoccer20@gmail.com

Shin Guards

Players are expected to wear shin guards to all tryouts, practices, and games.  Shin guards must be have the NOCSAE seal on them and be appropriately sized for your height.

If you are new to high school soccer but already have a pair of shin guards, make sure they have this seal on them.  If they do not, you must buy a new pair.

If you are buying a new pair, make sure they have they have the NOCSAE seal on them.

Bus Travel to Away Games and Nutrition

Please note the following information about our away games.

All buses to away games will load from and return to door 6 at Mayo High School.

We cannot rely on the availability of concession stands at our game sites. We must bring our food and drink with us.  Therefore, all players will:

  1. have their last pregame meal about 2-3 hours before their team's game
  2. consume a carbohydrate-rich meal within an hour of the end of their game (this meal will need to be in their backpacks so they can be consumed on the return trip in the bus)
  3. bring (and drink) enough water/fluid to sustain them before, during, and after the game.

These nutrition guidelines apply to home games as well.
