Information about 2026 tryouts will be published closer to the start of the next season. For reference, here is the information about the 2025 tryouts. We expect the 2026 tryouts will be similar, but times may be extended and sessions may be added, depending on how many people register.
The 2025 tryouts will begin on Monday, August 11 and run through Wednesday, August 13. It may not take all 3 days to organize the team; changes to the schedule will be posted in the Band. Times and locations are scheduled for:
The Varsity/JV sessions should be attended by:
The B-/C-Squad sessions should be attended by all players in grades 8-10, unless they have been invited/are eligible to attend the Varsity/JV sessions. Please understand that, due to our numbers, 7th graders are not allowed to participate in Mayo Boys Soccer.
Players are expected to attend all of their appropriate sessions on each of the 3 days. If it is not possible for you to attend or participate, you must contact Coach Jennings before tryouts begin.
Finally, we plan to have a separate goalkeeper session on Monday at Mayo from 6:30 - 7 PM. Anyone interested in playing as a keeper should plan to attend that session IN ADDITION to the other sessions described above. B-/C-Squad candidates should let the coaches know of their interest before their other session starts and we will make sure they are excused in time.
NOTE 1: The morning sessions are tentatively set for 9:30 to noon, so you should plan to be free for that entire block of time (i.e., arrange your work schedules to be free from 9:30 - noon). If the number of eligible players for the Varsity/JV morning session is high, this time slot will be split into 2 sessions: 1 from 9:30 - 11 AM and 1 from 10:30 - noon. You could be invited to participate in either session 1, session 2, or all of session 1 and all of session 2. Information on which session you should attend will be posted on the Band.
If the number of eligible players is lower, the morning session will run from 9:30 - 11 AM.
Note 2: The evening session has 2 parts: a soccer-specific part from 5:30-7 PM and a timed run from 7-8 PM. Wear cleats and shin guards for the soccer-specific part. You will need running shoes for the running portion as it will be done on the stadium track. Not everyone can run on the track at once, so we will break things into smaller groups. That means you may be done as early as 7:15 or as late as 8 PM. Once you have completed your timed run, you are free to leave. At this point, we expect younger players are more likely to finish earlier than older players.
Players are expected to wear shin guards to all tryouts, practices, and games. Shin guards must be have the NOCSAE seal on them and be appropriately sized for your height.
If you are new to high school soccer but already have a pair of shin guards, make sure they have this seal on them. If they do not, you must buy a new pair.
If you are buying a new pair, make sure they have they have the NOCSAE seal on them.
Please note the following information about our away games.
All buses to away games will load from and return to door 6 at Mayo High School.
We cannot rely on the availability of concession stands at our game sites. We must bring our food and drink with us. Therefore, all players will:
