Information for 8th graders and their families:

In the past couple years, we have seen the Mayo Girls Soccer Program grow and numbers have significantly increased from 60 to 80 athletes. This is great to see for our program, but does not come without growing pains.

When I started coaching with Mayo, there were three teams. The lowest level team was C-squad and, at that time, we needed 7th and 8th graders to make up half or more of this team. C-squad is technically the 9th grade team. Since numbers have increased, we added a fourth team to accommodate. We are glad to have this many athletes wanting to play Mayo Soccer. However, we feel the issues we have run into may not provide all of the tools your athlete needs to grow. Since adding a fourth team, our biggest hurdle has been finding schools with four teams to play games. What this means is our fourth team does not get the number of games to benefit their play. Additionally, we have consistently had 20-25 athletes on each team making it difficult to create sufficient playing time for our C and B squads.

We are anticipating seeing numbers at 60-70 soccer participants for the 2024 season. We expect this number to increase as we get closer to the start of our season. If we exceed 80 participants, we might have to look at making larger cuts. Since Mayo soccer is considered a high school sport and, if large cuts need to be made, we may consider dropping 8th graders from the program (there may be exceptions to this based on skill).

We are excited to have so many athletes interested in Mayo soccer! This does not mean 8th graders can not try-out this upcoming season. We want to be as transparent as possible in advance to help prepare for the fall season and give you the best options for your athlete. There are other playing opportunities for soccer in Rochester for athletes under 9th grade, such as Minnesota Rush. The enrollment for fall competitive and fall rec close on July 27th and July 21st, respectively.

If you have any questions, coach Andre would be happy to answer them.

Fundraising Activities 2024

Please support the Mayo Girls Soccer Program by joining our 4giving campaign!

All donations benefit the Mayo girls' soccer program and go towards equipment purchase, uniforms, special events (Homecoming, Senior Night), team banquets and other purchases used to create a positive experience for our student athletes. This is our main fundraiser for the season. Thank you for your support!

Uniform Socks

Uniform Socks will again be available for purchase. Each pair is $10. Depending on team, the color may differ. We will make socks available once teams are decided.

Concession Stand

Concessions provide a great fundraising opportunity for our program. Typically Varsity parents open/run the stand around 4:45pm for the JV game, and 9th/JV parents run/close the stand during the varsity game.

*We will create a sign-up sheet soon. Look for sign-up opportunities on Band!
