Coaching Background

Brett started coaching the Spartans in 2003 in both Cross Country and Girls Track & Field, and then joined the Boys Track & Field coaching staff in 2012. Other coaching experience include, volunteer Cross Country & Track & Field at the University of Minnesota Duluth, Assistant Track & Field at Proctor, MN, and Volunteer coach for two years with the Mayo Boys Hockey program. 

Education

A graduate of Mayo High School, Brett competed for the Spartans in cross country, hockey, track & field.  He went on to attend the University of Minnesota Duluth where he earned a Bachelor of Applied Science along with a General Coaching Certification and also the Level One U.S. Track & Field Coaching Certification.  He competed for the Bulldogs in cross country and track & field.  While competing for the Bulldogs he was a part of 11 conference championship teams.  Brett was captain of the Mens track team for two years and captain of the cross country team for one. He qualified for the Division 2 National meet in both track and cross country.

Mayo T&F/CC

Since 2003 the Girls CC Team has captured three All City titles, one Big 9 title, have been named the Big 9 team of the year three times, the section 1AA team of the year once, and have earned the State Gold Academic standard five years in a row.  The Boys CC Team has captured six All City titles, finished 8th at state, been named the Big 9 team of the year three times, Section team of the year once, and have earned the state Siver Academic Award once, and State Gold Standard six times.  We have had seven State Cross Country and ten girls have gone on to compete at the Collegiate Level.

Since 2004 the Girls T&F team has earned seven All City titles, three Big 9 titles, has been Big 9 runner up twice, Section 1AA runner up once, Section 1AA team of the year three times, and has earned the State Academic Gold Standard five years in a row.  We have had 41 entrants in the Minnesota State Class AA Track & Field Meet and sixteen girls have gone on to compete at the Collegiate Level.

Outside of Coaching

Brett is a Physical Education Teacher in the Rochester Public School District and currently teaches at Willow Creek Middle School.  Brett has two daughters.  He enjoys long walks on the beach and is a Libra.  If you've read this far I have some laundry that needs to be done.
